Taser of­fers body cam­eras to po­lice agen­cies free for 1 year

Taser In­ter­na­tional, best known for mak­ing elec­troshock weapons, an­nounced a new pro­gram to dis­trib­ute free body-worn cam­eras to po­lice of­fi­cers across the coun­try.

Based in Scottsdale, Ari­zona, Taser also an­nounced Wed­nes­day that it is chang­ing its name to Axon. In ad­di­tion to of­fer­ing the equip­ment for free, the com­pany will pro­vide train­ing and video stor­age ser­vices at no cost for up to a year.

If law en­force­ment agen­cies de­cide to keep the cam­eras, or dam­age them, they will have to pay full price.
