Rappahannock among top endangered rivers
A nonprofit environmental group says the threat of damage from fracking puts the Rappahannock among the 10 most threatened rivers in the U.S.
American Rivers ranked the Rappahannock No. 5 on its 2017 Most Endangered Rivers report. No other Virginia rivers are on the list, which was released Tuesday.
The report points to energy company Shore Exploration & Production’s leasing of tens of thousands of acres south and east of Fredericksburg with the intention of drilling for natural gas.
