Obama to give first pub­lic speech Mon­day

For­mer Pres­i­dent Barack Obama re­turns to pub­lic life this week with a Univer­sity of Chicago speech, his first since leav­ing the White House.

Mr. Obama will hold a town hall style dis­cus­sion Mon­day with other young civic lead­ers, his of­fice an­nounced Fri­day. For­mer first lady Michelle Obama will also join him for the trip.

The con­ver­sa­tion is ex­pected to fo­cus on civic en­gage­ment and en­cour­ag­ing the new gen­er­a­tion of lead­ers, some­thing Mr. Obama has said he hopes to make his main goal in life af­ter the pres­i­dency. He is not ex­pected to ad­dress cur­rent events or Pres­i­dent Trump. Pub­lic tick­ets are not avail­able for the event, which will be tele­vised.
