City med­i­cal providers on alert af­ter clinic raid

City health of­fi­cials have warned a net­work of med­i­cal providers of a po­ten­tial in­crease in drug over­doses and with­drawals af­ter law en­force­ment raided a pain man­age­ment clinic.

The Bal­ti­more Sun re­ported that the Drug En­force­ment Ad­min­is­tra­tion and lo­cal au­thor­i­ties raided the West­side Med­i­cal Group of­fices of Dr. Kofi ShawTay­lor on Tues­day.

Raquel Coombs, a spokes­woman for state At­tor­ney Gen­eral Brian Frosh, says Dr. Shaw-Tay­lor, 67, was charged with Med­i­caid fraud.

City Health Com­mis­sioner Leana Wen wouldn’t com­ment on the spe­cific case but said front-line providers must be alerted to the pos­si­bil­ity of pa­tients in with­drawal and over­dose.
