Smoke dis­rupts sub­way ser­vice on Metro’s Red Line tracks

Metro closed part of the Red Line early Thurs­day af­ter re­ports of smoke in a down­town tun­nel.

Metro of­fi­cials shut down the line be­tween the Gallery Place and Dupont Cir­cle sta­tions around 7:30 a.m.

D.C. fire of­fi­cials tweeted that they were work­ing with Metro to in­ves­ti­gate a re­port of smoke in a tun­nel be­tween Metro Cen­ter and Far­ragut North.

The tran­sit agency re­opened the line later Thurs­day af­ter mak­ing re­pairs in the tun­nel.
