Contractors to pay $25 million to county in settlement

The Washington Times Daily - - METRO -

The legal conflict over the Silver Spring Transit Center has been settled, with contractors agreeing to pay $25 million to Montgomery County.

The settlement was announced Tuesday, just as the case neared the midpoint of a scheduled 30-day jury trial.

The transit center, which links motorists and bus passengers with trains, opened five years late and $50 million over budget in 2015.

The county and Metro sued the general contractor, designer and other subcontractors for $47 million in cost overruns and damages for defects in the design and construction.

County Executive Isiah Leggett said the settlement will cover 90 percent of the hard costs incurred by the construction.

General contractor Foulger-Pratt also countersued the county for $11 million.
