Mother of trans­gen­der boy sues over re­stroom ac­cess

ST. AU­GUS­TINE | The mother of a 16-year-old trans­gen­der boy who is be­ing de­nied ac­cess to the boys’ re­stroom at his high school is su­ing a Florida school board.

The boy, iden­ti­fied as Drew Adams in the com­plaint filed in the U.S. District Court, at­tends the Allen D. Nease High School, in Ponte Ve­dra, Florida.

Drew was born fe­male but has iden­ti­fied as a boy since 2015.

Ac­cord­ing to the com­plaint filed against the St. Johns County School Board, the boy’s mother says her son be­gan be­ing de­nied ac­cess to boys’ re­strooms af­ter an anony­mous re­port was made in Septem­ber 2015.

Af­ter the re­port was made, school’s coun­selors in­structed the boy to re­frain from us­ing boys’ re­strooms and to use gen­der-neu­tral re­strooms in­stead.
