American Experience / 8:00pm (26.4) The Berlin Olympics of the mid1930s are remembered largely for the role of track-and-field medalist Jesse Owens, but other American athletes also made their marks in those Games, as recounted by “The Boys of ’36.” Based on a best-seller by Daniel James Brown, it recalls the Depression-era inspiration supplied by nine University of Washington rowers who showed endurance not only against rivals backed by Adolf Hitler, but also elite U.S. teams.
Manhunt: Unabomber / 9:00pm (Discovery) 11:02pm (Discovery) Discovery’s highly touted scripted anthology series devotes its first eight-episode season to an insightful look back at how FBI agent Jim ”Fitz” Fitzgerald (Sam Worthington, “Hacksaw Ridge”) brought down serial bomber Ted Kaczynski (Paul Bettany, “The Da Vinci Code”) through his work in forensic linguistics, ending a 17-year reign of terror. The fine cast also includes Chris Noth, Jane Lynch, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Mark Duplass and Brian d’Arcy James.
Face Off / 9:00pm (Syfy) 12:00am (Syfy) Goodness, these challenges seem to be getting weirdly specific: In a new episode called “Feral Fungi,” the six remaining special effects makeup artists are tasked with creating makeup for zombies. Not just any zombies, though — these particular walking dead were turned via contact with a fungal virus. McKenzie Westmore is the host.
