John William Brewster, age 29, of Fairfax, VA, died on July 21, 2017, in a commercial shing accident at sea, in Prince William Sound, Alaska.
John Brewster was born in Morristown, NJ and lived his early years in Chester, NJ. In 2000, John moved with his family to Fairfax Station, VA. John was very active in Scouting and earned his Eagle Scout award in 2004. He attended W.T. Woodson High School and Church of the Apostles Anglican in Fairfax, VA. In 2011, John graduated from George Mason University with a B.A. degree in Economics.
John was a mountaineer, mariner, sherman, entrepreneur, and adventurer. His life was always driven by the next adventure and his love for the outdoors, which brought him to many countries across the world, sharing his humor, wild spirit, and joy with people wherever he went. John was an avid reader, and a student of literature and philosophy. He actively explored and wrote about sociological theory and frameworks, and how people improve community in their lives. He was kind, compassionate, and resilient, and brought warmth and happiness to everyone he was with.
John’s love for adventure and the outdoors led him to Alaska, where he found home amongst ocean, wilderness, and local communities.
John is survived by his parents Brad and Trish Brewster of Fairfax, VA, brothers Mark Brewster and Thomas Brewster, and sister Elizabeth Brewster.
