Metro Transit Police announced Monday the arrest of a Seat Pleasant man who is suspected of shooting his teenage halfbrother inside a subway train on Sunday.

Police said they are looking for two other suspects in the shooting, which occurred on a Red Line train that was pulling into the Takoma Park Metro station Sunday afternoon. The suspects were described as “armed and dangerous.”

Late Sunday, authorities arrested Jermaine Brown, 18, of Seat Pleasant, at a motel in Capitol Heights. Mr. Brown was charged with first-degree assault in Montgomery County, where he is being held in a detention center.

Video footage of the shooting shows a 14-year-old boy traveling with Mr. Brown in a railcar when a fight ensued between Mr. Brown and three other passengers. Mr. Brown opened fire with a semiautomatic pistol, striking the teenager once in the abdomen and the railcar twice.

Detectives said they don’t believe the boy was Mr. Brown’s intended target.

After the shooting, Mr. Brown left the railcar with his wounded half-brother, who collapsed to the ground. The three others involved in the fight also left the railcar, crossed the Takoma Park station platform and boarded a train heading in the opposite direction. They were seen exiting at the Silver Spring station.

The wounded teenager received first aid at the Takoma Park station and reportedly was conscious as he was being transported to a hospital.

“Anyone with information on their identity or location should call the MTPD Criminal Investigations Division at 301-9555000 or text MyMTPD (696873),” Metro authorities said in a press release.

In recent years, there have been several reports of violence aboard Metro trains.

● In April 2016, a woman was raped at knifepoint on the Red Line in the Wheaton-Glenmont area.

John Prentice Hicks, 39, of Northeast, was charged with attempted first-degree rape, first-degree sex offense and seconddegree assault, according to court records.

● In February 2016, a 24-year-old man was shot while riding in a Green Line train. Hassan Graves, 16, attempted to rob the man, and when the victim tried to throw a punch, Mr. Graves opened fire, according to charging documents. Mr. Graves was charged as an adult with armed robbery.

● On New Year’s Day 2016, three teenagers suffered facial lacerations aboard a Yellow Line train following an unprovoked assault and robbery by four assailants. The attack occurred around 5 p.m., while the train was between L’Enfant Plaza and Mount Vernon Square.

● On July 4, 2015, Kevin Joseph Sutherland, a 24-year-old American University graduate, was riding on the Red Line when he was punched, stomped and ultimately stabbed to death by Jasper Spires, 18, according to authorities.

Court documents stated that Sutherland was stabbed as many as 40 times while almost a dozen passengers watched in horror. Authorities said they suspect Mr. Spires was high on synthetic drugs at the time. Evaluators at St. Elizabeths mental hospital determined in May that Mr. Spires is mentally fit to stand trial for the slaying.
