Silver Spring, MD – Patricia (Pat) McDermott a long-time resident of Riderwood Village, died Tuesday the 1st of August at Arbor Ridge Assisted Living. She passed away due to a recurring brain tumor. Born in 1933 in New York, NY, Pat received her undergraduate degree at the University of New York College at Cortland. She went on to get her Master’s Degree at Columbia University. After graduating college, she taught physical education at Bayside High School in New York.
She married James H. McDermott in June of 1960, they were married for 54 years. She became a stay at home mom to raise her four sons and resided in Laurel, MD most of her life. Pat was an avid water color painter and volunteered at the ARC of Prince George’s County working at My Friends Closet Thrift Store for 25 years.
She is survived by her brother Gregory Paul McCarthy of Yorktown, VA, sons James and his wife Linda of Potomac Falls VA, Thomas and his wife Michelle, grandchild James, of Ft. Lauderdale FL, Gregory and his wife Amy, three grandchildren, Kieran, Riley and Delaney, of Forest Hill, MD and David of Silver Spring MD.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, August 17th at 10:00 AM in the Riderwood Village Chapel 3140 Grace eld Road Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of owers please make donations to CALMRA, Inc. Their address is 5020 Sunnyside Avenue, Suite 206, Beltsville, MD 20705. CALMRA, Inc. provides homes and services to adults with cognitive disabilities in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.
