Sil­ver Spring, MD – Pa­tri­cia (Pat) McDer­mott a long-time res­i­dent of Rider­wood Vil­lage, died Tues­day the 1st of Au­gust at Ar­bor Ridge As­sisted Liv­ing. She passed away due to a re­cur­ring brain tu­mor. Born in 1933 in New York, NY, Pat re­ceived her un­der­grad­u­ate de­gree at the Uni­ver­sity of New York Col­lege at Cort­land. She went on to get her Mas­ter’s De­gree at Columbia Uni­ver­sity. Af­ter grad­u­at­ing col­lege, she taught phys­i­cal ed­u­ca­tion at Bay­side High School in New York.

She mar­ried James H. McDer­mott in June of 1960, they were mar­ried for 54 years. She be­came a stay at home mom to raise her four sons and resided in Lau­rel, MD most of her life. Pat was an avid wa­ter color painter and vol­un­teered at the ARC of Prince Ge­orge’s County work­ing at My Friends Closet Thrift Store for 25 years.

She is sur­vived by her brother Gre­gory Paul McCarthy of York­town, VA, sons James and his wife Linda of Po­tomac Falls VA, Thomas and his wife Michelle, grand­child James, of Ft. Laud­erdale FL, Gre­gory and his wife Amy, three grand­chil­dren, Kieran, Ri­ley and De­laney, of For­est Hill, MD and David of Sil­ver Spring MD.

A me­mo­rial mass will be held on Thurs­day, Au­gust 17th at 10:00 AM in the Rider­wood Vil­lage Chapel 3140 Grace eld Road Sil­ver Spring, MD.
