Azar leaves hos­pi­tal af­ter in­fec­tion

Health and Hu­man Ser­vices Sec­re­tary Alex Azar said Mon­day he was back to work and feel­ing grate­ful af­ter a brief hos­pi­tal stay for a mi­nor in­fec­tion.

Mr. Azar used Twit­ter to thank doc­tors and nurses who pro­vided “ex­cel­lent care” dur­ing a one-night stay at St. Vin­cent In­di­anapo­lis.

“Also thank­ful for my wife, who in­sisted that I call my pri­mary care doc­tor when I wasn’t feel­ing well. Glad to be back at work for the Amer­i­can peo­ple,” he tweeted.

The sec­re­tary served as an ex­ec­u­tive with Eli Lilly USA in In­di­ana be­fore tak­ing the HHS post, so he re­turns to visit his fam­ily on week­ends.

HHS late Sun­day said the sec­re­tary was ad­mit­ted to the hos­pi­tal and be­ing treated with in­tra­venous an­tibi­otics. “Out of an abun­dance of cau­tion he has been ad­mit­ted to a hos­pi­tal for ob­ser­va­tion,” the agency said.

The agency did not of­fer any de­tails about the na­ture of the in­fec­tion.

On Mon­day, HHS said the sec­re­tary had been “fully func­tional” dur­ing his hos­pi­tal stay.
