The­out­come­oftheNov.7elec­tion­s­may­have been­ab­lessingindis­guise.Thede­featoftheRepub­li­can Party may be the fi­nal re­al­iza­tion that the im­mi­gra­tion cri­sis will only be solved at the lo­cal level and that may be as it should be since al­mostallofthe­co­stan­dad­verse­ef­fect­sare­lo­cal. Even be­fore the Nov. 7 elec­tions, lo­cal com­mu­ni­ties and states were pass­ing their own im­mi­gra­tion laws and the fed­eral courts are up­hold­ing them. The re­lin­quish­ment of the fed­eral re­spon­si­bil­i­ty­toa­gangth­atwillflood­Amer­i­can town­sand­c­i­tieswith­mil­lion­sofnewnon-cit­i­zens atanet­costof­bil­lion­san­nu­ally,has­made­thede­ci­sion in­evitable.
