Today’s Mideast like Ottoman Empire
It’s amazing, with all the problems we have in our country today, we spend so much time discussing homosexual behavior instead of what really needs to be discussed — terrorists.
In four separate instances, starting in 1983, the terrorists have killed close to 5,000 Americans. This is almost twice the number killed at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. On Dec. 8, FDR declared war on Japan. Very few, if any, protested that decision. Yet when President Bush declared war on Afghanistan and Iraq, half of the American people declared war on our president. There is no doubt in my mind, if FDR was president on 9/11, he would have declared war on the entire Middle East, and no one would have declared war on FDR.
Shortly after 9/11, a scary picture entered my mind, a picture that goes back to a history class I had in college. The picture was of the Ottoman Empire. The empire included the following countries: the Balkans, southeast Europe, Hungary, Turkey, southwest Asia and northeast Africa. We are now at war with several countries in this area. They are all Islamic nations. And remember, they are fighting the entire non-Islamic world. Thousands of innocent people are dying because the leaders of he free world are unwilling to act. It’s reminiscent of my youth, when Neville Chamberlain refused to believe that Hitler wanted to rule the world.
Don’t be under the illusion that the war just started. It started at the end of World War I. It wasn’t in the open where you could see it, but was like a simmering fire that was ready to explode at a moment’s notice. It finally happened on 9/11.
Arthur James Balfour, foreign secretary of the British Empire from 1916 to 1919, wrote what has become known as the Balfour Declaration. It stated that since the British Empire controlled Palestine, why not give it to the Jews for a homeland. The British never acted on the declaration, and Israel was created in 1948. All hell broke out in the Middle East and has continued until today. The United States is one of the few allies that Israel has. We are at war with all the nations of Islam, not just Afghanistan and Iraq.
The war is being financed by Iran and Syria. Already the president of Iran has made it known that he won’t be satisfied until Israel is completely destroyed. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is driven by his hate of the Jews. So, all of you naysayers who think another 9/11 could not possibly happen had better read your history books. Another tragedy will happen if we cut and run in Iraq. The second Ottoman Empire is here, and I hope we don’t ignore it. Harry D. Minnick Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
