Lott of hot air

The Washington Times Weekly - - Letters To The Editor -

I have been pleased to read the on-going coverage the National Weekly Edition has given to the “shamnesty” legislation and, especially, to Trent Lott’s involvement. The reproduction of the Marshall Ramsey political cartoons in the July 2 edition described accurately the ire of the majority of Mississippi’s citizenry toward half of our representation in the exalted U. S. House of Lords. That, along with your news coverage, David Limbaugh’s column, and your most-admirable editorial commentary and cartoons, exposed for all to see the chicanery and shenanigans in which Mr. Lott participated.

Unfortunately for Mississippians, his sixyear vacation tour has five more years to go before he retires. Based upon his still-developing skill of “open mouth widely, then insert foot,” Mr. Lott will continue to damage the Republican Party, and particularly so here at home.

There is already a groundswell to register as an independent rather than as a Republican when our state conducts its newly-mandated judicial instruction for state-wide voter reregistration with ID.

My blessed mother taught me two old axioms that apply — “Birds of a feather flock together” and “You are known by the company you keep.” Mr. Lott’s good friend is Ted Kennedy. For me, ’nuff said. F. Fancher Edwards, Mississippi
