Barack Obama stepped in it big time when his cam­paign is­sued a state­ment that said Sarah Palin is not ready to take over the pres­i­dency in a heart­beat.

Clearly she is more qual­i­fied than Mr. Obama. She is a suc­cess­ful and re­spected gov­er­nor. Mr. Obama is the one without ex­ec­u­tive ex­pe­ri­ence. He hasn’t even been the mayor of a small vil­lage. As for for­eign pol­icy ex­pe­ri­ence, Mrs. Palin does know a lot about oil pol­i­tics, and with a one-week globe-trot­ting trip she can catch up with Mr. Obama’s broad diplo­matic ex­pe­ri­ence.
