Time to wrap up a futile venture
In his first interview since taking over the Pentagon’s counter-IED campaign in March, Army Lt. Gen. Michael D. Barbero projected increased U.S., allied and Afghan casualties in the coming months as the fighting picks up and the United States military appears less able to control the Afghan insurgents’ most deadliest weapon.
For Heaven’s sake lets put an end to this madness. This is not a real war or a real battlefield. We send our seasoned fighting men to this troubled area of the world to fight faceless shadows, not military figures. In conventional wars brave men in battle dress face off against each other on real battlefields and for right or wrong causes.
We can’t continue to sacrifice any more American lives with the hope that our efforts will succeed in transforming this nation’s centuriesold traditions of cultural emptiness into a democratic state.Where are the stalwart political and military figures with the guts to stand up and demand the immediate end to this misadventure?
