Re: your ar­ti­cle in the June 20 edi­tion ti­tled “Ob­ject­ing ATF agents ‘told to fall in line’ in gun­run­ning case” (page 11), what it wrong when the ATF sells guns to the Mex­i­can drug car­tels? What is wrong when these same guns are used to kill Amer­i­can agents in Mex­ico? What is wrong when the Depart­ment of Jus­tice and White House claim no knowl­edge of this ac­tion?

Op­er­a­tion “Fast and Fu­ri­ous” seems to have no own­ers. The story is these guns were de­lib­er­ately sold to the car­tels as a sting op­er­a­tion. A sting against whom? We sold them to the car­tels, what did we ex­pect? This brings into ques­tion the com­pe­tence of both the ATF and Depart­ment of Jus­tice. These de­part­ments are sup­posed to pro­tect us not kill our peo­ple. Per­haps these are can­di­dates for bud­get cuts? Keith C. De Filip­pis San Jose, Cal­i­for­nia
