Drowning in a flood of our Monopoly money

The Washington Times Weekly - - Letters To The Editor -

Texas Gov. Rick Perry was warned by President Obama for implying that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is treasonous for printing money. Printing money sounds harmless, but the opposite is true. When money is not backed up it becomes worthless paper.

We are no longer the only game in the world. Our dollar competes with other currencies. Not long ago hamburgers were 15 cents now they are five dollars. The cost of hamburgers has not gone up, the value of the dollar has gone down. It could get worse as it did in Germany in the 1920s or Zimbabwe today.

Printing money may not be treasonous but it is irresponsible. Keith C. De Filippis San Jose, California
