David Alan Werner
David Alan Werner, 80, died on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017, at his Bella Vista, Ark., home. He was born Jan. 14, 1937, in Axtell, Kan., and graduated from Axtell High School.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed overseas for three years. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he attended Pittsburg University in Pittsburg, Kan. He had a lifelong career in the newspaper and printing industry. He started work in his youth helping with the family newspaper (The Axtell Standard). The majority of his employment was with Lawrence Photographic Supply (Wichita, Kan.), where he worked as a salesman traveling the states of Kansas and Nebraska.
He worked hard and played hard, enjoying life to the fullest. He spent many years “out on the water” at Lake Perry, water skiing, sailing and swimming with friends and family. He also spent many hours attempting to improve his golf game. When referring to golf he would say, “I may not be good at it but I sure love the game.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph “Turk” Werner and Mabel Werner; and a brother, Ruel Kurt Werner.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; daughter, Barb; son, Kurt; two grandchildren, Jakob and Piper; a brother, Robert (Dorothy); and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life to honor him will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Shawnee Civic Center, located at 13817 Johnson Drive Shawnee, Kan., 66216. The family will be available to share memories.
