David Alan Werner, 80, died on Satur­day, Aug. 12, 2017, at his Bella Vista, Ark., home. He was born Jan. 14, 1937, in Ax­tell, Kan., and grad­u­ated from Ax­tell High School.

He en­listed in the United States Air Force and was sta­tioned over­seas for three years. Upon dis­charge from the Air Force, he at­tended Pitts­burg Univer­sity in Pitts­burg, Kan. He had a life­long ca­reer in the news­pa­per and print­ing in­dus­try. He started work in his youth help­ing with the fam­ily news­pa­per (The Ax­tell Stan­dard). The ma­jor­ity of his em­ploy­ment was with Lawrence Pho­to­graphic Sup­ply (Wi­chita, Kan.), where he worked as a sales­man trav­el­ing the states of Kansas and Ne­braska.

He worked hard and played hard, en­joy­ing life to the fullest. He spent many years “out on the wa­ter” at Lake Perry, wa­ter skiing, sail­ing and swim­ming with friends and fam­ily. He also spent many hours at­tempt­ing to im­prove his golf game. When re­fer­ring to golf he would say, “I may not be good at it but I sure love the game.”

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Ralph “Turk” Werner and Ma­bel Werner; and a brother, Ruel Kurt Werner.

He is sur­vived by his wife, Sue; daugh­ter, Barb; son, Kurt; two grand­chil­dren, Jakob and Piper; a brother, Robert (Dorothy); and sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

A Cel­e­bra­tion of Life to honor him will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wed­nes­day, Aug. 23, at the Shawnee Civic Cen­ter, lo­cated at 13817 John­son Drive Shawnee, Kan., 66216. The fam­ily will be avail­able to share me­mories.
