Cal­ico Cut-Ups

Cal­ico Cut-Ups is a quilt guild of Bella Vista. The next meet­ing will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 23 at First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive, Bella Vista. Cost is $5 if not a mem­ber, to help pay for the speaker.

The speaker will be Suzi Par­ron, who will be speak­ing about the barn quilt move­ment, that can be seen through­out the coun­try, with quilt blocks painted on wood to adorn our homes. They can be seen in­side homes or out­side. They can be mounted on a build­ing or used as a lawn or­na­ment.

There will be a work­shop at 9 a.m. that morn­ing be­fore the work­shop. The cost is $45 and all sup­plies are pro­vided to cre­ate and paint a 2-foot by 2-foot quilt board to take home.

Bella Vista/ Ben­tonville Photography Club

The Bella Vista/Ben­tonville Photography Club met Sept. 19 at Home­town Bank in Jane, Mo., for their reg­u­lar monthly meet­ing with 16 in at­ten­dance. Mem­bers gath­ered to turn in pho­to­graphs for the fall con­test. The pho­to­graphs were judged Oct. 3 by three out­side judges. Pho­to­graphs will be on dis­play be­tween 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Fall Photo Print Show to be held at North­west Arkansas Com­mu­nity Col­lege, Stu­dent Cen­ter Room 108, 1 Col­lege Drive, Ben­tonville.

The next meet­ing of the club will be held at 6 p.m. Tues­day, Oct. 17, at Home­town Bank in Jane with “Fall Color” as the con­test theme.

Hill ’N Dale Hik­ing Club

Hill ’N Dale Hik­ing Club of Bella Vista will hike the Back 40 Ledges Trail in Bella Vista on Mon­day, Oct. 16. This will be a mod­er­ate hike of five miles. Bella Vista Chap­ter 1547 of the Na­tional Ac­tive and Re­tired Fed­eral Em­ploy­ees As­so­ci­a­tion will hold their next monthly meet­ing at 10 a.m. Fri­day, Oct. 13, in the Com­mu­nity Room at Home­town Bank, 21196 High­way 71 South, Pineville, Mo., just past the Jane Wal­mart. Women’s Cho­rus

Bella Vista Women’s Cho­rus in­vites singers from the area to join them. All are wel­come with no try­outs or ex­pe­ri­ence needed. the cho­rus per­forms clas­si­cal, pop, folk and show tunes for lo­cal clubs and events. Trav­el­ing Sams

Twenty-six mem­bers and guests of the Bella Vista Trav­el­ing Sams at­tended the an­nual Area 1 Good Sams Friend­ship cam­pout in Grove, Okla., Sept. 21-24. The Jolly Rogers Sams and the Fort Smith Bell Point Sams also at­tended this event. The group started with Thurs­day night din­ner and an auc­tion that evening. Fri­day morn­ing, the Bella Vista Sams pro­vided a pan­cake/sausage break­fast. Later, the group went to Mi­ami, Okla. to tour the Coleman The­ater. The the­ater was built in 1929 by the Coleman fam­ily and to­day it is still an op­er­at­ing the­ater with a vin­tage pipe or­gan called the “Mighty Wurl­itzer.” The three chap­ters en­joyed card games, eat­ing, and vis­it­ing. Satur­day morn­ing the three chap­ters played against each other for a game of corn hole and the Bella Vista Trav­el­ing Sams won the game.

NWA Ma­rine Corps League De­tach­ment 854

NWA Ma­rine Corps League De­tach­ment 854 meet­ings are held at 6:30 p.m., the third Mon­day of the month at American Le­gion Post 341, 1885 Bella Vista Way, in Bella Vista.

By be­ing a mem­ber of the League, ac­tive duty and for­mer Marines, Fleet Ma­rine Force Corps­men, and aux­il­iary mem­bers strengthen ties with fel­low Marines and pro­vide a place where mem­bers can talk about their ex­pe­ri­ences with peo­ple who un­der­stand. The League in­ter­acts with the lo­cal com­mu­nity through vol­un­teer­ing with the lo­cal Vet­er­ans Ad­min­is­tra­tion, pro­vid­ing as­sis­tance for home­less vet­er­ans, in­put on leg­isla­tive ac­tion, and fund­ing for emer­gency re­lief; and as­sist­ing with the an­nual Toys for Tots. Mem­bers of the Ma­rine Corps League join for the pur­pose of pre­serv­ing tra­di­tions and pro­mot­ing the in­ter­ests of the U.S. Ma­rine Corps; band­ing to­gether those who are cur­rently serv­ing and those who have been honor­ably dis­charged from the U.S. Ma­rine Corps. It aids and as­sists all ac­tive duty and for­mer Marines, FMF Corps­men, and their wid­ows and or­phans. The League pro­motes the ideals of American free­dom and democ­racy, per­pet­u­at­ing U.S. Ma­rine Corps his­tory and ob­serv­ing an­niver­saries of his­tor­i­cal oc­ca­sions that are of par­tic­u­lar in­ter­est to Marines.

BV His­tor­i­cal Mu­seum

The an­nual open house at the Bella Vista His­tor­i­cal Mu­seum will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thurs­day, Oct. 12. There will be door prizes and re­fresh­ments. The mu­seum has dis­plays show­ing more than 100 years of Bella Vista His­tory. Fly-Ty­ers Club

The Fly-Ty­ers Club meet­ings are ev­ery Thurs­day at Rior­dan Hall in the Kings­dale com­plex, be­gin­ning at 9 a.m. for a so­cial hour fol­lowed by a meet­ing from 10 to 11 a.m.

The club is a fish­ing, con­ser­va­tion, and ser­vice or­ga­ni­za­tion con­sist­ing of ap­prox­i­mately 150 mem­bers. This group of men and women share a com­mon in­ter­est in fish­ing (both warm and cold-wa­ter species) found in the lo­cal streams and lakes of Bella Vista. The club also pro­motes lake con­ser­va­tion, re­cre­ational ac­tiv­i­ties, and con­ducts ser­vice projects through­out north­west Arkansas.

Sun­rise Ro­tary Club

The Bella Vista Sun­rise Ro­tary Club has a break­fast meet­ing at 7 a.m. ev­ery Wed­nes­day in the Con­cor­dia Main Build­ing, 1 Con­cor­dia Drive, Bella Vista. Guests are wel­come.

Dec­o­ra­tive Artists

The Bella Vista Dec­o­ra­tive Artists meet at 9 a.m. the sec­ond Satur­day of each month to have a busi­ness meet­ing and paint­ing ses­sion at Wish­ing Spring Stu­dio at 8862 W. McNelly Road, next to Wal­greens. The pur­pose of the chap­ter is to stim­u­late in­ter­est and ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the art of paint­ing. BVDA does a va­ri­ety of ser­vice projects. This year, we are work­ing with the Village House in Bella Vista, Chil­dren’s Shel­ter, and Mem­ory Boxes for lo­cal hos­pi­tals. Each month BVDA has a chap­ter mem­ber or a vis­it­ing na­tional artist teach an art project in acrylics, oils, wa­ter­color, or mixed medi­ums. Pain­ters of all skill lev­els make up the BVDA Chap­ter.

Pride of the Ozarks Bar­ber­shop Cho­rus

The Pride of the Ozarks Bar­ber­shop Cho­rus meets from 7 to 9 p.m. ev­ery Thurs­day at In­n­is­free Se­nior Liv­ing Com­mu­nity, 300 In­n­is­free Cir­cle, Rogers, which is one block east on 24th and Wal­nut streets. Males of any age, color or creed who en­joy acapella singing are wel­come and in­vited. Vo­cal mu­sic ex­pe­ri­ence is help­ful.

Wood­carvers Club

The Wood­carvers Club is made up of both men and women en­joy­ing the art of carv­ing and py­rog­ra­phy (wood burn­ing). The club is made up of both be­gin­ners, in be­tween and to very ex­pe­ri­enced carvers. Mem­bers share their ta­lents and ideas in the weekly meet­ings from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thurs­days at Rior­dan Hall. The club has a li­brary of carv­ing books and for those need­ing ideas. Come by and visit and per­haps join for a nom­i­nal yearly fee. The Bella Vista Wood­carvers Club is a non­profit or­ga­ni­za­tion and has 48 mem­bers to date and grow­ing.
