Bonnie “Colleen” Carter, 86, long-time Bella Vista, Ark., resident, died Nov. 29, 2017. She was born Nov. 19, 1931, to Sidney and Mary Lida of Mission, Kan. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School and Kansas City Business School and was a manager at Continental Grain Co. for 25 years before retiring to Bella Vista in 1991.
She was an elite bowler, avid golfer and a skilled craftswoman in stained glass, woodcarving and flower arranging.
Her retirement to Bella Vista brought an active community life where she belonged to the Metfield Mommies and Ladies Nine Hole golf groups and served as president of the Women’s 9-Hole Golf Association. She was the chairperson of the Bella Vista Pride Committee for three years and a founder of the Bella Vista Golf Remembrance Program. She was also active in Bella Vista Community Church. She enjoyed bridge and canasta groups, as well as mah-jongg. She was known as the “Mayor of Brittany Courts” for 15 years because she organized block parties and lawn and beautification projects for the area. Her dogs were her constant companions.
She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Carter.
Survivors include her son, Chris Carter and wife of Auburn, Penn.; one daughter, Cay Miller (Mark) of Hasty, Ark.; three grandchildren, Maria Carter, Annie Carter and Raymond Carter; two great-granddaughters, Akita Carter and Addie Zoellner; and two brothers, Sidney Lida (Fran) of Lakeland, Fla., and Robert Lida of Wichita, Kan.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Dec. 16, 2017, at Bella Vista Community Church. A reception will follow.
Interment of her ashes will be a private family ceremony at the Bella Vista Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Animal Shelter, 32 Bella Vista Way, Bella Vista.
