Police cite man in fatal accident
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Hatboro Police Chief James E. Gardner announce the results of the investigation into the pedestrian fatality that occurred on North Warminster Road in Hatboro this past November.
After an investigation it was determined that on Nov.16 at approximately 6:16 p.m., a 2002 Dodge Durango, operated by Benjamin Irven Beliveau, 60, of the 200 block of North Warminster Road, Upper Moreland Township, struck and killed Dorothy A. Lodge, 75, of the 400 block of Ashley Avenue, Upper Moreland.
The joint investigation of the incident, conducted by the Hatboro Police Department and Montgomery County detectives, showed that Beliveau was driving his vehicle southbound on North Warminster Road, near Lycoming Avenue, over the speed limit when the vehi- cle struck and killed Lodge who was in the process of crossing Warminster Road.
Within minutes of the accident Beliveau called 911 from his home and reported he may have struck something on Warminster Road. Beliveau reported that he was unsure what he had struck and drove around the block ultimately going to his home located near the scene of the collision.
The circumstances of the incident were reviewed by prosecutors and detectives from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and based on that review the case was referred back to the Hatboro Police Department for summary prosecution. As a result, Beliveau was issued citations for careless driving resulting in an unintentional death, maximum speed limits, and driving vehicle at a safe speed, police said.
