Up­per Southamp­ton cel­e­brat­ing the Fourth

Staff Writer A traf­fic jam along Sec­ond Street Pike in Southamp­ton is noth­ing un­usual, but when it’s a 40-car lineup of ve­hi­cles made prior to 1980 it’s the first-ever Rolling Car Show at the an­nual Southamp­ton Days fes­tiv­i­ties be­gin­ning July 1.

The auto dis­play be­gins at 9:30 a.m. July 4, trav­el­ing from the Pike (Route 232) and Jay­mor Road, north to Klinger Mid­dle School on Sec­ond Street Pike just north of Maple Av­enue. The show is part of the In­de­pen­dence Day pa­rade that also in­cludes bands and floats. At the con­clu­sion of the pa­rade/ car show, show win­ners will be an­nounced in the Lions Grove sec­tion of Ta­ma­nend Park, 1255 Sec­ond Street Pike, be­tween 11:30 a.m. and noon.

All ve­hi­cles in the car show must be made prior to 1980, and be able to drive the length of the pa­rade route, ac­cord­ing to con­test rules. Regis­tra­tion to en­ter is re­quired at southamp­ton­days.com. Judg­ing cat­e­gories in­clude Best Orig­i­nal, Best Cus­tom and Pres­i­dents Award.

The 42nd an­nual Southamp­ton Days, with a theme this year of “Made in the USA,” runs July 1 through July 6 on the grounds be­tween Ta­ma­nend Park and Klinger, and fea­tures amuse­ment rides, food, live mu­sic, chil­dren’s en­ter­tain­ment, a 5K run, tal­ent show and more. Fire­works are planned for 9:30 p.m. July 4. On July 4 only there is a $3 gen­eral ad­mis­sion fee, which in­cludes en­trance to the fair and fire­works. Chil­dren un­der three are free. Free shut­tle buses run from area lo­ca­tions (visit southamp­ton­days.com for in­for­ma­tion) to the fair­grounds from 6 to 9 p.m. July 4 only, with re­turn trips fol­low­ing the fire­works show.

Mon­day, July 1. 6:30 p.m. Free. Chil­dren’s en­ter­tain­ment on Chil­dren’s Stage, “Mag­i­cal Il­lu­sions of Kyle and Kelly.”

Tues­day, July 2. 6:30 p.m. Free. Chil­dren’s en­ter­tain­ment on Chil­dren’s Stage, “Mr. David C. Perry.”

Wed­nes­day, July 3. 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Free. 4th an­nual Tal­ent Show. Cat­e­gories in­clude chil­dren, dance, vo­cal and in­stru­men­tal. 5-minute per­for­mance max­i­mum. Cash prizes.

Thurs­day, July 4. 6 p.m. - fair opens; 7:30 p.m. – “Bone­head” con­cert, Mid­way Stage; 7:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. fire­works and con­cert Daisy Jug Band, on grounds be­hind Klinger Mid­dle School, and 9:35 p.m. fire­works.

Fri­day, July 5. Rides, food, mu­sic. 7 p.m. Southamp­ton Com­mu­nity Band, Lions Grove.

Satur­day, July 6. 9 a.m. Southamp­ton-Warmin­ster Area Lions Club 5K Run for Sight. Rain or shine. Can reg­is­ter at time of run.
