Keep an Eye on Energy Consumption
The electricity used for lighting can be one of the biggest energy vampires in your timber home. In fact, an average of 10 to 15 percent of household energy usage comes from lighting. You need light to see, right, so what can you do? Switch to LEDs. Swapping out incandescent light bulbs for LED (light-emitting diode) bulbs can save hundreds of dollars over the course of the bulb’s lifetime, which can be an astounding 10 to 20 years or more. According to the DOE, replacing just five of your home’s most-used bulbs with ENERGY STAR LEDs will save $75 in the first year. GE’s vintage-shape LED bulbs (pictured above) add dimmable, energy-efficient and longlasting charm to any fixture.
