Just because Captiva is warm nearly year- round doesn’t mean it can’t celebrate winter holidays accordingly. Late November through December, Captiva Holiday Village hosts a series of seasonal events that combine the essence of a winter wonderland with a laid- back, tropical twist ( think palm trees wrapped in Christmas lights).

December 7 marked Royal Shell’s Fourth Annual Golf Cart Parade, which took place along Andy Rosse Lane. Crowds, stretching from Chadwick’s Square at South Seas Island Resort down past the Green Flash Restaurant on Captiva Drive, cheered on golf carts decked out in festive garlands, bright lights, shiny balloons and more.

Some participants, like Debbie Bubbly and Julian Codner who turned their cart into an elf- mobile, were first- timers in the parade. Others, like Swimstastic South Seas members Mary and Jillian Nabidonski and Kristen Potter, returned for another season of fun.

American Realty of Captiva’s “Snow Nourishment” cart won best in show, while Kingfisher Vacations’ “Rudolphin” took the prize for commercial category, and “Mixed Nuts” was declared the noncommercial category winner for the third straight year.

A portion of the $ 20 entrance fee benefited the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation.
