Historical Society presenting firefighter exhibit Saturday
PRESTON — Preston Historical Society is presenting an exhibit “Hometown Heroes: Honoring the Men and Women of the Preston Volunteer Fire Department, 1927-2016,” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the historical society at 167 Main Street in Preston.
The exhibit recognizes the contributions of all the different individuals who have served the community of Preston over the past 89 years, including, in addition to the firefighters, members of the Ladies’ Auxiliary, the Dive Team, and EMTs. A large collection of firefighting equipment, dive equipment, and life saving equipment will be on display, along with uniforms and turnout gear.
Photographs and newspaper articles will help tell the history of the organization. Weather permitting, the department’s antique fire truck will be on the site the day of the event.
At 11 a.m. there will be a fire prevention demonstration by fire department members. Goody bags will be handed out to children during the course of the event.
All attendees will be eligible to two door prizes, signs created by Laura Fearins of Chesapeake Casual Living. Also during the day’s event a 50/50 raffle will be held and a bake sale table will be set up. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. the fire department will be selling chicken barbecue dinners at 239 Main Street in Preston.
On Monday, Oct. 17, a Membership Meeting will be held at Preston Historical Society at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
