His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety pre­sent­ing fire­fighter ex­hibit Satur­day

PRE­STON — Pre­ston His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety is pre­sent­ing an ex­hibit “Home­town He­roes: Hon­or­ing the Men and Women of the Pre­ston Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment, 1927-2016,” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Satur­day, Oct. 15, at the his­tor­i­cal so­ci­ety at 167 Main Street in Pre­ston.

The ex­hibit rec­og­nizes the con­tri­bu­tions of all the dif­fer­ent in­di­vid­u­als who have served the com­mu­nity of Pre­ston over the past 89 years, in­clud­ing, in ad­di­tion to the fire­fight­ers, mem­bers of the Ladies’ Aux­il­iary, the Dive Team, and EMTs. A large col­lec­tion of fire­fight­ing equip­ment, dive equip­ment, and life sav­ing equip­ment will be on dis­play, along with uni­forms and turnout gear.

Pho­to­graphs and news­pa­per ar­ti­cles will help tell the his­tory of the or­ga­ni­za­tion. Weather per­mit­ting, the depart­ment’s an­tique fire truck will be on the site the day of the event.

At 11 a.m. there will be a fire preven­tion demon­stra­tion by fire depart­ment mem­bers. Goody bags will be handed out to chil­dren dur­ing the course of the event.

All at­ten­dees will be el­i­gi­ble to two door prizes, signs cre­ated by Laura Fearins of Ch­e­sa­peake Ca­sual Liv­ing. Also dur­ing the day’s event a 50/50 raf­fle will be held and a bake sale ta­ble will be set up. Be­gin­ning at 10:00 a.m. the fire depart­ment will be sell­ing chicken bar­be­cue din­ners at 239 Main Street in Pre­ston.

On Mon­day, Oct. 17, a Mem­ber­ship Meet­ing will be held at Pre­ston His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety at 7 p.m. The pub­lic is in­vited to at­tend.
