CAMBRIDGE — On senior night, a freshman and sophomore provided all the scoring for the Vikings.

Abby Robinson’s first-half goal proved to be enough, but Brooke Windsor provided cushion with another score Thursday, as the Cambridge-South Dorchester High girls’ soccer team posted a 2-0 shutout of Colonel Richardson.

The Vikings improved to 6-5, while Colonel dipped to 3-8. Both teams have a date with Snow Hill remaining on their regular-season schedule. The Vikings visit the Eagles Monday at 5:30 p.m. Colonel hosts Snow Hill Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.

“I think our passing was good — great, actually — and that’s something that we’ve been working on all season,” said Vikings head coach Kareem Otey, just back from maternity leave after having twin daughters in late September. “We did a good job of moving the ball around.”

Robinson’s goal made it 1-0 with 24 minutes, 39 seconds left in the first half. Dribbling around a Colonel defender, Robinson took one shot, bounced it off an opponent, then right-footed it into the net.

“We took a lot of shots on the day; that’s a big difference between this year and last,” Otey said. “We’re telling the girls, ‘if they have any shot, take it.’ We just had a lot of shots go high, or just wide, or we kicked it right at their keeper.”

C-SD outshot the Colonels 13-7. The Vikings’ second goal came on a penalty kick midway through the second half.

After a trip inside the box was called on Colonel, Windsor, a freshman, right-footed the penalty kick into the upper left-hand corner of the net, just out of the reach of Colonel keeper Hannah Holmes (seven saves).

Colonel had several pushes, but couldn’t finish.

“We couldn’t seem to get the calls,” Colonel head coach Jeremy Roop said. “We had two times there should’ve been penalty kicks, and we didn’t get them. Cambridge got just the one, but that was it . ... The girls know we played them even, but in the end, we just couldn’t get the calls.”

Though each team received several free kicks after very physical plays, Windsor’s penalty shot was the only one on the night. The game got a bit more physical as the clock wound down, but neither side received a card.

“I think our offense had chances, but again, it just didn’t go our way,” Roop said. “So now, we get ready to take on Snow Hill, and then we’re got the playoffs after that.”

C-SD’s win gave the team a twogame regular-season sweep of the Colonels. The Vikings won, 5-2, at Colonel, a month ago.
