Bullied child needs holiday cheer

Times-Record - - News -

Ten-year-old Avery’s world feels like it has fallen apart right before the holidays.

Within the last month, Avery’s mom was arrested and incarcerated — a result of her ongoing drug addiction — leaving his father to take care of him and his three brothers.

While he loves learning, school is not a comfortable escape from his tumultuous home life.

At his school, Avery is bullied and harassed by his peers for having a neglectful mom who would rather choose heroin over her own children. Some of the kids tell Aver y that it’s his fault that his mom got addicted to drugs, because she couldn’t stand to be sober around a child like him. Some of these bullies recently cornered him at school, shoving him back and forth, and telling him that he’s just as pathetic as his mom.

Avery wants to take out his anger in a healthy way, by starting kickboxing classes, but with three brothers and a father who works full-time just to make ends meet, little money is left over for anything, let alone kickboxing classes.
