“I’m very honored to serve Denton,” Clendaniel said. “I’ve been very honored to serve with all of the folks on this council. It really has been a great honor to be here. I learned a lot. It is thanks to yourselves.”

Denton Mayor Abby McNinch presented Clendaniel with a plaque, which included a hammer on it, and a proclamation.

“Robert has worked tirelessly to keep taxes down for Denton residents, and to make sure the budget is balanced,” she said. “His dedication to the community is to be commended. On behalf of the Denton Town Council, we extend our congratulations and gratitude.”

Del. Jeff Ghrist, R-36-Caroline, attended Clendaniel’s retirement meeting and presented him with proclamations from the Maryland House of Delegates and the Senate.

“I’ve been impressed with your leadership. You have been a fiscal conservative,” said Ghrist who served as a Caroline County Commissioner prior to the state House of Delegates. “You have been a huge stalwart for the taxpayers, especially when it comes budget time. You don’t spend money that you don’t have. You have done an outstanding job.

“I will say, my first term as county commissioner, I was a bit jealous of you,” he said. “For sometime, you had more power than I did as a county commissioner. He had the ear of Jack Cole for so long. You had a lot of influence at the county level. You had a big impact on policy, not just for the town of Denton but countywide as well.”
