Student workshop program joins Leadership Maryland
ANNAPOLIS — Leadership Maryland, the professional development program dedicated to building a better Mar yland by harnessing the strength of its local business and community leaders, and Mar yland Leadership Workshops, the state’s premier leadership development program for middle and high school students, have completed a merger.
Now in its 62nd year, Maryland Leadership Workshops is a nonprofit organization that hosts peer-led summer programs that empower and inspire middle and high school students across Maryland to succeed and be more engaged in their schools and communities.
Leadership Maryland, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2017, has more than 1,100 leaders from all industries and regions of the state who have completed the eight-month hands-on learning program focused on the state’s most vital social, economic and environmental issues.
“Our two organizations have been great partners since 2004, as many Maryland Leadership Workshops delegates go on to become Leadership Mar yland graduates, and many Leadership Mar yland graduates encourage their children to become Maryland Leadership Workshops delegates,” said Eliot Pfanstiehl, former Maryland Leadership Workshops board chairman and CEO of the Strathmore Hall Foundation.
Under the agreement, Maryland Leadership Workshops becomes a division of Leadership Mar yland and will continue to host five week-long student programs each summer.
Anita Durall Anderson will remain in the role of executive director, and representatives of Maryland Leadership Workshops also will serve on the Leadership Maryland board of directors.
“Joining forces officially creates more financial efficiency in the day-to-day operations of our organization, and allows us to focus more of our energy and attention on expanding our program,” Pfanstiehl said.
“Now that we are under one umbrella, we are proud to say that Leadership Maryland offers a continuum of statewide programming that educates and empowers local leaders from middle school through retirement and beyond,” said Leadership Maryland Board Chairman Eric Brotman ‘09, president and managing principal at Brotman Financial Group. “As we begin our organization’s 25th anniversary year, we are thrilled to welcome Anita and the entire Maryland Leadership Workshops team to the Leadership Maryland family.”
