“The players, who play in Florida, are the best of the best, and Gabby certainly fits in that class,” said Colonel head coach Brett Ireland. “She is going to be able to play her sport all year. Florida has a lot to offer because the competition is so high down there.

“Gabby has been a starter on varsity since day one her freshman year,” he added. “She has had so many big moments. She has won us many games on the field, at the mound and at the plate. She is an all-around great player.

“We are thrilled softball has opened up a door for Gabby to get a scholarship to go to college,” he said. “It will be great for her. She lives soft- ball, and we are so proud of her.”

Ireland joined Galante, and her parents, Michael and Susan, for the signing ceremony at Colonel Richardson Friday.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity Polk State College is giving me to playing softball on the next level,” Galante said. “I’m really excited to play in Florida. The weather is great down there. I’m excited for the challenged because so many players want to play in Florida, so it is extremely competitive. I look forward to the challenge.”

“The coach came up to watch me pitch, and I felt I had a really good day,” she said. “After talking some more, the coach offered me a full scholarship. I’m thankful for the opportunity the school is giving me.”

Galante said playing a Colonel has been a great feeling, and she has made so many great memories.

“There is such a rich history in softball and baseball at Colonel,” she said. “So many great players have come through these halls. My teammates through the years have been the best anyone could have. They have made me a better player and a better person.

“We have excellent coaches here at Colonel, and I want to

thank them for all they have done for me to be a better player and a better person,” she added. “My parents have done so much for me, and I’m able to continue my softball dream because of my parents. I’m so thankful for them.

“I’m excited for my senior year,” she said. “I’m looking forward to getting back on the field with me teammates and having another great year with them.”
