Bull­dogs pour it on in Wi­comico rout

NC has 14 dif­fer­ent play­ers score in rout of the In­di­ans

RIDGELY — Four­teen play­ers scored for North Caro­line High’s girls’ lacrosse team Tues­day in a 19-4 rout of Wi­comico.

Vi­o­let Clarke led the Bull­dogs (3-2) with three goals, and Hope Blanken­ship, Alexa Law­ton and Kaylee Jester each added two goals.

RIDGELY — Four­teen play­ers scored for North Caro­line High’s girls’ lacrosse team Tues­day in a 19-4 rout of Wi­comico.

Vi­o­let Clarke led the Bull­dogs (3-2) with three goals, and Hope Blanken­ship, Alexa Law­ton and Kaylee Jester each added two goals.

“We have a great team with a lot of depth,” said Bull­dog head coach Krys­tel Ebaugh. “We were able to mix up the lineup through­out the game. The girls work re­ally well to­gether. We have such a wide spec­trum of ex­pe­ri­ence. I think they do such a great job.”

North Caro­line got on the board the first minute of play when Mikaela Walton scored on the game’s first shot. Four min­utes later, Clarke found a streak­ing Madi­son Beatty for a 2-0 lead. Clarke then made a steal and scored on a break for a 3-0 lead.

Bull­dog goalie Caitlyn Lane made one of her nine saves to pre­serve the three­goal lead. Clarke then set up Alyssa Gun­der­son in front of the net for a goal and a 4-0 lead. Blanken­ship scored two min­utes later, and Natalie Cal­loway found and streak­ing Ja­lyn Stafford for a goal and a 6-0 ad­van­tage.

Ali Belote in­creased the lead at the 10:37 mark of the first half when she scored af­ter a steal. Kylie Phillips won the en­su­ing face­off, raced down­field and scored eight sec­onds later, ex­tend­ing the lead to 8-0.

Three min­utes later, Gun­der­son worked be­hind the net and found a slic­ing Cas­sidy Kercheval for a goal. Jester’s first goal off a Gun­der­son pass made it 100.

The In­di­ans (0-5) got on the board at the 5:16 mark in the first half on a goal by Jenna Evans.

Jester’s goal put North Caro­line up 11-1, and Blanken­ship capped the first half scor­ing for a 12-1 lead with 50 sec­onds left be­fore half­time.

Though she did not score, Ebaugh praised Tanya Haro.

“This is her first year play­ing lacrosse, and we had her in the start­ing lineup,” Ebaugh said. “This is her first year ever hold­ing a stick, and she re­ally played well today. She gained a lot of ex­pe­ri­ence play­ing with our more ex­pe­ri­enced girls.

“I was re­ally proud of her ef­fort today,” she added. “All the girls played very well with the va­ri­ety of line­ups we threw out there today. We want ev­ery­one to get com­fort­able no mat­ter who is on the field with them. The girls did a great job, and have done a great job all year.”

Wi­comico opened the sec­ond half with two quick goals.

The Bull­dogs an­swered with sixth straight goals. Clarke scored her sec­ond, and was fol­lowed by Sarah Ferkler. Alexa Law­ton then scored two straight goals for a 16-3 lead. Caro­line Led­num and Kelsey Wal­ters each scored for an 18-3 bulge.

Clarke capped the scor­ing with un­der two min­utes left.

Kent 13, Ris­ing Sun 12

WORTON — Mag­gie Jones scored five goals, and the Kent County High girls’ lacrosse team de­feated Ris­ing Sun, 13-12, on Mon­day.

Au­drey Helfen­bein added four goals and two as­sists, while Caro­line MacLeod (three goals, two as­sists) and Mad­die Tay­lor (one goal, one as­sist) also found the net. Al­i­son Rameika fade four saves.

The Tro­jans (2-3) host Eas­ton af­ter the Easter break, next Wed­nes­day.

Eas­ton 14, Cam­bridge-SD 5

CAM­BRIDGE — Ellie Roser scored five goals and set up three more, and Emma Skoglund net­ted four goals and one as­sist last Fri­day, as the War­riors gave head coach Robert Smith his first win as var­sity head coach.

Natalie Sny­der added two goals for Eas­ton (1-3), and Ta­tum Crouch, Macy Schmidt and Lexi McDaniel (as­sist) added one goal each. Emily Grif­fith had a strong game in goal and ben­e­fit­ted from the de­fen­sive play of Molly Oer­tel, Myia Jeter and Erin McDon­ald.
