Couple drugs girl, forces her into prostitution
DENTON — A Caroline County grand jury indicted a Caroline County couple who allegedly injected a 15-year-old girl with heroin and forced her to perform prostitution on adult men, according to the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office.
Paul Thomas Owen, 26, of Denton was arrested and charged with human trafficking-take cause, human trafficking-benefit financially, seconddegree child abuse, third-degree sex offense, sexual solicitation of a minor, sex abuse of a minor, contributing to condition of child abuse, neglect of a minor, reckless endangerment, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Darlene Louise Allen, 35, of Ridgely was ar rested and charged with human traffickingtake cause, human trafficking benefit financially, second-degree child abuse, contributing to condition of child abuse, neglect of a minor and reckless endangerment. They are being held at the Caroline County Detention Center without bond.
According to the sheriff’s office, Caroline County Department of Social Services-Protective Services and police began investigating a child abuse allegation in Januar y. Police said investigators confirmed the girl was injected with heroin on several occasions by Allen and her boyfriend, Owen.
Police said between Dec. 17 and 20, 2016, Allen, Owen and the girl were staying in a room at the Best Western Hotel in Denton, and the girl allegedly was coerced by Allen and Owen to perform prostitution on adult men in the hotel room in return for drugs and money.
Police said Allen also was performing prostitution in the room, and Owen had sexual intercourse with the girl during the hotel stay.
According to the sheriff’s office, Allen and Owen drove the girl to Delaware for the purposes of performing sexual acts on an elderly man in Greenwood, Del. Police said money was exchanged for the alleged sexual encounter with the Delaware man and the girl.
Police said Lori Lynn Griffith, 43, of Ridgely had a level of involvement in the case. Police said she was served with a criminal summons, charging her with neglect of a minor and contributing to the condition of a child.
