Annual diaper drive set to begin in August
— In 2014, while looking for a place to donate out-grown diapers, Jackie Weisman, a Caroline County native who now lives in Crofton, discovered the diaper gap, which stems from the fact that the federal program designed to help low income families, WIC, does not cover diapers. In the metro area, Diaper Banks exist to help fill this gap; however, no such place exists in rural Caroline County.
This discovery led to setting a goal of collecting 3,100 diapers (in honor of Weisman’s 31st birthday). Not only was this goal met, it was surpassed with a final count of 8,101 diapers, along with a massive amount of wipes and diaper cream. These were all donated to St. Martin’s Ministries in Ridgely.
In the following years, Weisman has facilitated the collection of over 30,000 diapers with the support of the community. This year’s goal has been set at 12,000 diapers. Donations can be made during the month of August a variety of ways.
