Ridgely Car Show to auction signed helmet
— The Ridgely Car Show recently announced a signed NASCAR helmet with 43 signatures on it will be auctioned during the seventh annual car show on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Event organizer Brenda Walls and her team got NASCAR Monster Series drivers to sign a helmet during the spring race at Dover International Speedway. The signatures include Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Ryan Blaney, Martin Truex Jr., and NASCAR legends Richard Petty and Bobby Allison.
The helmet will be one of many auction items at the car show along with another Richard Petty-signed helmet and a Richard Petty guitar.
Petty is scheduled to make his fourth appearance at the 2017 Ridgely Car Show. He signed autographs and met with fans in front of the Ridgely Pharmacy and Ice Cream Parlor on Belle Street. He will again meet with fans and tour the October car show.
The opportunity to bring Petty to the show came about when organizers selected the Petty Family Foundation as the event’s charity in 2013. The foundation serves the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C., a haven for children stricken with serious illness and injur y.
Since the car show began six years ago, the event has raised more than $250,000 for charity, with the Petty Family Foundation becoming the car show’s primary charity five years ago.
The 2017 festivities begin Saturday, Oct. 14, with the second annual Tour Caroline Road Rally. The Road Rally accepts all years, makes and models of cars. To register for the Tour Caroline Road Rally, visit www. ridgelycarshow.com. Costs is $50 per vehicle.

“Caroline County Tourism and tourism director Kathy Mackel have been huge supporters of the Tour Caroline Road Rally,” Walls said. “They have helped us plan the route, and provided us with historical information to best showcase Caroline County.
