Con­cert to ben­e­fit LLS re­search

EAS­TON — The Leukemia and Lym­phoma So­ci­ety of the East­ern Shore will host the Coun­try Cares Con­cert for a Cure fundraiser Thurs­day, Oct 5, at the Avalon Theatre in Eas­ton.

The con­cert fea­tures Eric Karge, Justin Ryan and Bird Dog and The Road Kings. Seats in the first three rows of the cen­ter floor sec­tion are the VIP sec­tion, and are on sale for $75. All other seats, floor and bal­cony sec­tions, are gen­eral ad­mis­sion and $25. The VIP party be­gins at 6:15 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m. The con­cert starts at 7 p.m.

The con­cert ben­e­fits LLS of the East­ern Shore, which hosts the an­nual 10week Man and Woman of the Year cam­paign.

The fifth an­nual Man and Woman of the Year cam­paign raised more than $455,000 for blood can­cer re­search. Melissa Coli­gan of Team Missy’s Mojo was named Woman of the Year. She and her team raised more than $121,000. The ti­tle of Man of the Year was awarded to John Bunce of Team Crushin’ Orange, who with his team raised more than $123,000. This was the third win for Team Crushin’ Orange, af­ter 2016 Woman of the Year Emily Mur­ray and 2015 Man of the Year Tom Bunce.

So­ci­ety has given out more than $706,000 in pa­tient co-pay as­sis­tance and travel ex­penses just this year. Nearly 40 per­cent of all can­cer treat­ments were first de­vel­oped through blood can­cer re­search.
