Man ar­rested after al­legedly stab­bing nephew

PRE­STON — Caro­line County Sher­iff’s County deputies ar­rested a Pre­ston man after he al­legedly stabbed his nephew late Sun­day night.

Ac­cord­ing to the sher­iff’s of­fice, Gary Lee Ire­land, 54, of 21269 Dover Bridge Road, was charged with sec­ond-de­gree at­tempted mur­der, first- and sec­ond­de­gree as­sault, reck­less en­dan­ger­ment and car­ry­ing a con­cealed dan­ger­ous weapon.

Po­lice said Gary Ire­land and his nephew, Zach­ery Ryan Ire­land, 18, had an ar­gu­ment at about 9:45 p.m. Sun­day, Oct. 8, at 21269 Dover Bridge Road. Po­lice said Gary Ire­land stabbed Zach­ery Ire­land mul­ti­ple times.

Po­lice said Zach­ery Ire­land was flown to Univer­sity of Mary­land Shock Trauma Cen­ter in Bal­ti­more in crit­i­cal con­di­tion. Po­lice said Zach­ery Ire­land’s con­di­tion was up­graded Monday morn­ing to se­ri­ous but sta­ble.

Gary Ire­land was ar­rested with­out in­ci­dent at the scene Sun­day night, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

He is be­ing held on no bond at the Caro­line County De­ten­tion Cen­ter, po­lice said.
