Brighter Christ­mas Fund kicks off 34th year

EAS­TON — The Star Demo­crat’s Brighter Christ­mas Fund kicks off its 34th year this month, and the fund’s board of di­rec­tors met re­cently to be­gin prepa­ra­tions.

The fund helps pro­vide chil­dren with toys and cloth­ing un­der the Christ­mas tree.

In 2016 — its 33rd year — the Brighter Christ­mas Fund raised more than $114,000, thanks to the gen­eros­ity of Mid-Shore read­ers and res­i­dents. Those do­na­tions al­lowed the fund to help more than 700 fam­i­lies and 1,600 chil­dren have a brighter hol­i­day. It was the 13th year in a row the Brighter Christ­mas Fund raised more than $100,000.

Ap­pli­ca­tions are be­ing ac­cepted now for fam­i­lies to ap­ply for the Christ­mas as­sis­tance.

This year, the Brighter Christ­mas Fund board of di­rec­tors in­cludes Tim Ka­gan, Laura Am­bler, Tracy Ber­ri­gan, Tony Mo­han, Michael Wheat­ley, Pres­i­dent David Fike, David All­top, Melodie Haufe, John Griep, Betsy Grif­fin, Paul Ha­good and Tim Matis.
