Brighter Christmas Fund kicks off 34th year
EASTON — The Star Democrat’s Brighter Christmas Fund kicks off its 34th year this month, and the fund’s board of directors met recently to begin preparations.
The fund helps provide children with toys and clothing under the Christmas tree.
In 2016 — its 33rd year — the Brighter Christmas Fund raised more than $114,000, thanks to the generosity of Mid-Shore readers and residents. Those donations allowed the fund to help more than 700 families and 1,600 children have a brighter holiday. It was the 13th year in a row the Brighter Christmas Fund raised more than $100,000.
Applications are being accepted now for families to apply for the Christmas assistance.
This year, the Brighter Christmas Fund board of directors includes Tim Kagan, Laura Ambler, Tracy Berrigan, Tony Mohan, Michael Wheatley, President David Fike, David Alltop, Melodie Haufe, John Griep, Betsy Griffin, Paul Hagood and Tim Matis.
