HILLS­BORO — Joseph Earl Whitby Jr. (Buster), 77, of Hills­boro, MD, passed peace­fully in his sleep on Tues­day, Novem­ber 7, 2017, af­ter a long ill­ness.

He was born on March 25, 1940, to Joseph Earl Whitby Sr. and Y. Louise Chance Whitby. He lived most of his life in Trappe.

On June 5, 1963, he mar­ried Mary Ann Wheedle­ton of Galestown, MD, his lov­ing wife of 54 years. They had four daugh­ters, whom he was proud of and loved very much.

Buster worked as an iron worker, welder, wa­ter­man and farmer. He loved to tinker with things and al­ways found the time to help oth­ers. He at­tended Tal­bot Evan­ge­lis­tic Church when he was able.

He is sur­vived by his wife, Mary Ann Whitby; and four girls: Robin Ann Mar­shall (Mark), of Wittman; Sandy Ann Whitby (Mueller/Ni­black), of Annapolis; Rose Ann Bay­nard (Bruce), of Trappe; Jo Ann Wood (Vaughn “Kip”), of Gulf Breeze, FL; seven grand­chil­dren: Gre­gory Mueller (Laura), of Stevensville; Christo­pher Mueller, of Har­mony (Elizabeth); Jas­mine and Chase Ni­black, of El­berta, AL; Lind­sey Bay­nard, of Trappe; Taylor and Ni­cholas Wood of FL; two great-grand­chil­dren: Kaylie and Gar­ret Mueller, of Har­mony; and a spe­cial, hon­orary son, John Tyler (Bar­bara), of Wittman. He is also sur­vived by three sis­ters: Joyce Yeat­man, Glo­ria Wa­ters, Faith Dadds; one brother, Ray­mond Whitby; along with cousins, nieces, neph­ews, and lots of friends.

A me­mo­rial ser­vice in his honor will be held on Satur­day, Nov. 18, 2 p.m., at Tal­bot Evan­ge­lis­tic Church, 6099 Ocean Gate­way, Trappe, MD. Friends and fam­ily may call one hour prior to the ser­vice.

In lieu of flow­ers, me­mo­rial con­tri­bu­tions may be made sent in his name to Tal­bot Evan­ge­lis­tic Church, 6099 Ocean Gate­way, Trappe, MD 21673 and/or to Allen African Methodist Epis­co­pal Church, P.O. Box 85, Hills­boro, MD 21641 for dis­as­ter re­lief.
