CAMBRIDGE — A Hurlock man, accused of committing a string of armed robberies on the Mid-Shore, is in custody after being arrested by deputies with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.
James Quinton Thomas, 34, of the 5000 block of Williamsburg Church Road, has been charged in Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot counties, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested on Friday, Nov. 3. Police said Thomas was shot three times on Saturday, Oct. 28, near Hurlock. The Oct. 28 shooting remains under investigation.
Thomas is accused of armed robbery at the Shore Stop in Preston on Thursday, Oct. 26. In the case, he is charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, theft between $100 and $1,500, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, handgun in vehicle, handgun on person, possession of an illegal firearm and two counts of forgery.
Thomas also is accused of armed robbery on Friday, Oct. 27, in the 5000 block of Mt. Zion Road near Hurlock.
In that case, Thomas is charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, possession of a dangerous weapon, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft less than $100.
Later on Oct. 27, Thomas is accused of committing a home invasion in the 7000 block of Williamsburg Church Road near Hurlock. For the home invasion case, he is charged with home invasion, three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault, three counts of reckless endangerment, use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, handgun on person and theft less than $100.
According to charging documents, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office connected Thomas to an Oct. 21 robbery in the 400 block of Dover Street in Easton. Thomas was sequentially charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft of less than $100 for the Easton case.
Police said video footage showed a black man grab items from a woman and then run south of Higgins Street. Police said video footage showed the same man exit a dark Honda Accord near Super Soda prior to the robbery.
The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Thomas when deputies responded to the Shore Stop at 233 Main St. in Preston at about 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26.
According to charging documents, a black man with hair to his shoulders entered the store and attempted to purchase cigarettes with a bad check. Police said when the man was told about the check, he went back to his car, came back in with a handgun, taking cigarettes and cash. Police said the man fled the scene in a dark car.
