RIDGELY — Early registration for the eighth annual Ridgely Car Show continues until Oct. 1, and for the fifth time NASCAR legend Richard Petty is scheduled to appear at the October event.

The 2018 Ridgely Car Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14. Since the car show began, the event has raised nearly $300,000 for charity, with the Petty Family Foundation becoming the car show’s primar y charity five years ago.

Petty will be signing autographs and meet with fans from noon to 2 p.m. in front of the Ridgely Pharmacy and Ice Cream Parlor on Belle Street. The car show will be giving out 200 wristbands the day of the show to meet the NASCAR legend.

The opportunity to bring Petty to the show came about when organizers selected the Petty Family Foundation as the event’s charity in 2013. The foundation serves the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman, N.C., a haven for children stricken with serious illness and injury.

Admission to the car show is free for all ages. Registration for cars, motorcycles and trucks can be done at www.ridgelycarshow. com. Cars can register the day of the event.

The Ridgely Car Show accepts all years, makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles in dozens of classes. There will be more than 100 trophies, including some very unique trophies for specific classes, awarded on a judged basis.

Also scheduled to appear at the car show will be The “Miss Hurst” Linda Vaughn, Tom Sarnento builder of the “General Lee” and Roy Hill who won 28 IHRA national event victories and currently operates Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School.

Making her first appearance to the car show will be Catherine Bach who played Daisy Duke from the “Dukes of Hazzard.” Also making his first appearance will be David Rea, owner of DB Restorations LLC, a Mopar-only restoration shop in Creswell, Ore. They also will be signing autographs.

The show also benefits the Ridgely Car Show Foundation nonprofit organization, which supports local charities, including Pink Cares of the Eastern Shore, Md.
