Train Your Gaited Horse

Trail Rider - - HOT ON THE TRAIL -

Internationally known gaited-horse clinicians Larry Whitesell and Jennifer Bauer have created Riding the Gaited Horse, a three-disc set packed with practical techniques to help you engage your horse’s hindquarters and relax his back so he’ll gait more smoothly. Such problems as trotting or pacing will then disappear, assert the clinicians.

You’ll follow specific exercises designed to increase your horse’s strength, suppleness, and collection to create a smooth, even gait. You’ll learn how to create a soft, supple horse from the ground up.

Whitesell, a lifelong horseman, has had success in the show ring. He’s studied with the classical dressage trainer and author Dominique Barbier. Bauer, who also grew up with horses, has worked with classical trainers and has trained with Whitesell for five years.

Here, Whitesell focuses on the horse, while Bauer trains the rider. This intense, two-pronged approach helps trail riders of all ages and skill levels. Cost: $120. Contact: (931) 267-6723; www.gaitedhorsemanship.com. — Cate Lamm
