Re­tired Race­horses Show­cased

The Re­tired Race­horse Project’s $100,000 Thor­ough­bred Makeover and Na­tional Sym­po­sium Pre­sented by Thor­ough­bred Char­i­ties of Amer­ica will be held Oc­to­ber 27-30, 2016, at the Ken­tucky Horse Park in Lex­ing­ton. The event fea­tures 500 Thor­ough­bred ex-race­horses per­form­ing in 10 eques­trian dis­ci­plines, in­clud­ing Com­pet­i­tive Trails; each horse has re­ceived less than a year’s train­ing in a sec­ond ca­reer. In Com­pet­i­tive Trails, horses will com­pete in an ap­prox­i­mately six-mile ride on the grounds of the Ken­tucky Horse Park with at least six judged ob­sta­cles.

Top pro­fes­sional and am­a­teur train­ers from through­out North Amer­ica com­pete for $100,000 in prize money and crowd sup­port to be crowned “Amer­ica’s Most Wanted Thor­ough­bred.”

About half of the horses will be of­fered for sale; each horse will un­dergo an ar­rival exam by a vet­eri­nar­ian from Hag­yard Equine Med­i­cal In­sti­tute. Hag­yard vets will also be avail­able to con­duct pre­pur­chase ex­ams. All sale horses will be cat­a­loged on­line in ad­vance, and buy­ers may test-ride horses at the sell­ers’ dis­cre­tion.
