Finally, a phone you can sit on without breaking. Several smartphone makers will soon roll out devices with flexible screens that can fold in half without breaking. The foldable screens could increase display space to the size of a mini-tablet, but still fold like a wallet to remain the size of regular phones. There are questions about the phones’ price and durability, and they’ve proven difficult to make: Samsung announced plans for a foldable-screen phone five years ago, but it didn’t give the public a glimpse of the device until this week. If the phones are affordable and sturdy enough, they might be a big step for an industry that’s run low on innovation and also experienced a sales slump.
