Atmospheric Greenhouse Gases Surge to New Record

Trillions - - In this Issue -

Concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere surged at a record-breaking speed in 2016, according to a new report from the UN'S World Meteorological Organization's Greenhouse Gas Bulletin.

The abrupt changes in the atmosphere witnessed in the past 70 years are without precedent and will lead to mass extinction much sooner than previously predicted.

The last time the Earth experienced a comparable concentration of CO2 was 3-5 million years ago, the temperature was 2-3°C warmer and sea level was 1020 meters higher than now but it took thousands of years for the changes to occur. At no time in Earth's measureable history have the level of greenhouse gases risen so rapidly.

But, global warming and runaway climate change are just getting started and CO2 and methane concentrations can only continue to climb rapidly, even if human contributions drop to zero.

Earth's feedback loops have kicked in and the planet itself is now releasing massive amounts of CO2 and methane from the Arctic, peat bogs and dying forests. Warming oceans will soon be releasing massive amounts of CO2 as well.

We have been warned about global warming and climate change for more than 30 years but the information just hasn't sunk in and most of humanity lives in denial or simply blocks it all out. Some are aware of the situation but are trapped in a culture that gives them few options.

Even if we can't grasp the concept or don't believe it, we are indeed faced with the collapse of our civilization and a substantial depopulation.

As droughts, floods, wildfires, extreme temperatures, typhoons, hurricanes and other storms increase so will crop failures and the costs to cope with the damage. As food prices soar out of reach there will be greater civil unrest, mass migration and governments will collapse.

60% of Earth's wildlife is already gone. The annual cost of climate change is already in the trillions of dollars.

Why can't we wake the hell up?
