Radical Renderings

For those who spend any time on custom truck pages or are generally a fan of cool automotive art, the handiwork of Nick Crouch of Surface DVD is most certainly on your radar. Having graced these pages many times before, Nick is a major player in the rendering world, with many of his creations going on to become SEMA projects. He’s a wellknown source in the multimedia arena as well. His company, Surface DVD, is known for producing topnotch automobile art prints, T-shirts, and videos, and having the Pretty Low brand of apparel. Part of Nick’s signature is nailing the details; he makes sure everything he does stands out from the crowd. He also does what he can to help the scene by not charging an arm and a leg for the amount of work he puts into his renderings—sometimes 20 to 30 hours. To buy prints and apparel, visit his online shop: surfacenick. myshopify.com. He can be reached through email for a rendering at surfacenick@hotmail.com. Follow him on Instagram @surfacenick or just gawk at some of his latest creations at surface-dvd.com.

This ’97 Chevy 1500 extra cab is going to be one smooth operator when it’s finished and will be an exercise in how clean a build can be. To set the tone, Grant Kustoms was sourced for the unibody panels that will bridge the gap between cab and bed to make it one uniform line from front to back, while the bed itself will be shortened by 2 inches. A 40x40-inch Legacy ragtop will be cut into the top to open up the cab. The suspension and frame will be powdercoated white to match the body, giving it a more seamless appearance, with the paint being handled by H1 Customs in Fresno, California. The interior will be treated to all white, while a ’57 Chevy dash will be planned. Powered by a 4.8 LS, the truck will ride on 22-inch Intro wheels with a six-lug rear-disc conversion helping slow down this showstopper.

Built by Carolina Kustoms in Portland, Oregon, this ’69 C10 started out as a derelict project CK took on that just grew. The sheetmetal took four years alone! The truck sits on a Porterbuilt suspension with Ridetech HQ shocks, Slambags, two Air Zenith compressors, and an Accuair E-Level with the Endo tank. It features an LS3 that is sprayed black, a Holley intake, hot cam, custom radiator, hidden wiring, and a custom bed floor started with Birdseye Maple that was stained gray and coated with PPG matte clear. Other PPG colors include twotone with Lamborghini Gray and Chevy White. The interior sports bomber gray and black leather, with the stock seats custom-cut to make them into buckets (owner built, with help from Jim’s Custom Upholstery in Portland). The front of the truck rides on 20x8s while the rear rides on 20x10s, both mated to Toyo tires.
