Safety Jor­dan Mitchell went down with an ap­par­ent left knee in­jury in the first quar­ter and had to be helped off the field. He did not re­turn.

No. 2 run­ning back Corey Tay­lor II did not travel to Toledo, hav­ing in­jured his foot the pre­vi­ous week against Louisiana.

Run­ning back and kick re­turner Rowdy Si­mon also missed Satur­day’s game after in­jur­ing his an­kle on a kick re­turn against Louisiana. He made the trip to Toledo but was not suited up and had a walk­ing boot on his right foot.

Fa­mil­iar face

On the side­line for a se­cond week in a row was for­mer Hur­ri­cane quar­ter­back Dane Evans, the top passer in pro­gram his­tory. After con­clud­ing his ca­reer last sea­son, Evans spent sev­eral weeks with the Philadel­phia Eagles be­fore be­ing cut Sept. 1.

Evans, the son of a high school coach, plans to go into coach­ing. He has been wear­ing a coach’s head­set dur­ing games and work­ing closely with Hur­ri­cane quar­ter­back Chad Pres­i­dent.
