Safety Jordan Mitchell went down with an apparent left knee injury in the first quarter and had to be helped off the field. He did not return.
No. 2 running back Corey Taylor II did not travel to Toledo, having injured his foot the previous week against Louisiana.
Running back and kick returner Rowdy Simon also missed Saturday’s game after injuring his ankle on a kick return against Louisiana. He made the trip to Toledo but was not suited up and had a walking boot on his right foot.
On the sideline for a second week in a row was former Hurricane quarterback Dane Evans, the top passer in program history. After concluding his career last season, Evans spent several weeks with the Philadelphia Eagles before being cut Sept. 1.
Evans, the son of a high school coach, plans to go into coaching. He has been wearing a coach’s headset during games and working closely with Hurricane quarterback Chad President.
