Safety Williams' career over

Tulsa World - - Gameday -

Safety Cristian Williams is done playing football, having been forced to retire prematurely for medical reasons.

Williams, who announced the news in an Instagram post before Saturday’s game against Arkansas State, has played in 27 games and is coming off a careerbest performance in which he led the Hurricane with 11 tackles at Texas.

A junior from New Orleans whose family relocated to Dallas because of Hurricane Katrina, Williams led a pregame prayer with some of his teammates in the end zone. He wore his jersey and watched the game from the sideline.

Williams was replaced in the starting lineup by TieNeal Martin, a juniorcollege transfer from California.

Another first-time starter was redshirt freshman Zaven Collins, who filled in for injured linebacker Robert Revels III.

On offense, tight end Chris Minter made his season debut after recovering from injury.
