6th Annual DNR Customs Outlaw Diesel Event Takes Over Milan Dragway

Detroit is of course known as “Motor City” for good reason, with the big three domestic manufacturers headquartered in the area, so it’s reasonable to think that there would be a lot of gearheads in the area as well. It turns out that the reasoning is correct and on September 10, 2016, diesel enthusiasts were drawn to the Milan Dragway about 50 miles outside of Detroit for the sixth annual DNR Customs Outlaw Diesel Event. Around 2,000 diesel fanatics braved the gloomy weather forecast to attend. Overall attendance was lower than expected, likely due to the storms that had struck the area earlier in the week and continued to be a problem for the DNR Customs team throughout the weekend.

finally shutting down the track for good. Blake Miller defeated Ric Newbury by less than 0.04 seconds to take the win. Since the ET Bracket final round was set but rained out, the DNR crew and track officials decided it was best to name Kyle Bassitt and Steve Ketchman Co-champions rather than have them run down the track in the rain.

Hopefully September 9, 2017, will provide better weather for the seventh annual DNR Customs Outlaw Diesel Event when it invades Milan Dragway once again. If you’re a gearhead like we are, you’ll want to be there for the event as a competitor or spectator we’re sure a great time will be had by all. Norm Jurachel’s 2010 Ford took home the honors for the highest horsepower of the day at over 1,400 hp thanks in part to a friendly assist from a little nitrous oxide sprayed into the air filter. His great looking Power Stroke was also awarded first place

TOP: HSP Diesel’s Joe Kutchey brought his beautiful R&D test mule truck out to display in their booth and take a turn spinning the rollers on the dyno putting down more than 550 hp. TOP INSET: Kutchey’s Duramax had a set of HSP’S prototype exhaust manifol

TOP: Watching a big dually smoke the tires with a burnout never gets old! MIDDLE: The 12.0 Index final round came down to a pair of black Dodges with Ric Newbury in the far lane and Blake Miller in the near lane. The race was extremely close from start to

TOP: Ric Newbury’s Dodge put down nearly 1,250 hp on the Diesel Doctor dyno; we don’t think the bottle helped much since the bottle holder nearly blasted himself off the platform while spraying the laughing gas down the side of the truck rather than into

TOP: This Dodge made several dyno pulls on each of the dynos; here you can see that the wastegate was opening a little early, preventing the truck from building maximum boost. ABOVE: Cody Tederington and his cool little VW Caddy pickup had the distinction
